Tensions flared in an intense IPL clash between PBKS and GT as head coach Ricky Ponting was visibly frustrated with Vijaykumar Vyshak after the pacer bowled 3 consecutive wides in a crucial over. With GT needing 64 off 24 balls, Vyshak allowed freebies which didn’t impress his coach.
The latest IPL 2025 season fixture match between PBKS and GT saw an entertaining turn as Punjab set 243 runs on the board after opting to bat first. Skipper Shreyas Iyer led the charge with unbeaten 97 while Shashank contributed 44 runs from mere 16 balls.
In the chase, GT started on a high after Sai Sudharsan slammed 74 off 41 balls. Jos Buttler also slammed a fighting half-century.
Ricky Ponting Unimpressed With Vijaykumar Vyshak
However, the required run rate for GT kept on soaring as PBKS bowlers controlled the scoring rate in the middle overs. Vijaykumar Vyshak, Punbjab’s impact player, was called to bowl the crucial 17th over.
However, Vyshak ended up releasing the pressure on GT batters Sherfane Rutherford and Buttler as he bowled 3 wides in his first 4 balls.
It all started when Vyshak attempted to outfox batter Sherfane Rutherford by bowling a wide delivery outside off stump. But Rutherford shifted fractionally, and the umpire originally ruled it as a legitimate delivery.
Moments later, the umpire reversed the decision, awarding a wide after Rutherford reviewed. This was just the beginning of Vyshak’s woes.
The next delivery saw a similar mistake, as the bowler once again fired the ball too far outside off stump, resulting in another wide.
PBKS head coach Ricky Ponting was seen giving a death stare from the dugout. His mood darkened further when Vyshak bowled yet another wide, making it three in a row.
That being said, despite Vyshak's costly over, PBKS managed to restrict GT to 232 runs, taking home a 11-run victory.
