Australian speedster Daniel Sams pulled out an impeccable all-round spectacle for Sydney Thunder in their clinical five-wicket win over Melbourne Stars in match number 12 of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) 2023 season.

The cricketer claimed four wickets in his spell, including three of them in just four balls to restrict Stars to just 172 in their innings upfront. The 31-year-old later listed 22 unbeaten runs from just 13 balls to seal the deal for his side in the penultimate over of the game.

Interestingly, Daniel Sams found no takers at the IPL 2024 auction earlier this week, a month after the cricketer was released by the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) franchise, before playing part for the five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI).

Daniel Sams takes three wickets off four balls

Daniel Sams, tasked to bowl the final over of the Melbourne Stars innings, conceded just two runs from it and accounted for three wickets in a space of four balls. The cricketer also sneaked in a runout in between, that of tailender Mark Steketee, and dismissed Stars' well-set batter Beau Webster for 59. Sams eventually finished his four-over spell at 4-29 to list his eighth four-wicket haul in T20 cricket.

Sams also punched out a boundary and a six to score 22* runs from just 13 balls and ensured Sydney Thunder romp through their target with more than an over to spare.

Interestingly, the Australian all-rounder went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction in UAE earlier this week. Last month, he was one of the eight players to be released by the LSG franchise for next year’s IPL 2024 season.

After spending two seasons at the RCB (2021) and the Mumbai Indians (2022) camp, the Sydney Thunder star did not receive a single crack in the playing XI during LSG’s playoffs finish in IPL 2023.
