Amid the IPL 2024 auction excitement, Australian player Ashton Turner encounters a major setback, undergoing knee surgery. Lucknow Super Giants' recent acquisition faces a twist of fate in his BBL stint with the Perth Scorchers.

Turner Faces Season-Ending Knee Surgery

In a surprising turn of events, Lucknow Super Giants' Ashton Turner, picked at the IPL 2024 auction, is ruled out of the ongoing Big Bash League (BBL) due to a knee injury. The Scorchers' captain underwent surgery for a meniscus tear in his right knee after experiencing pain during a match against Hobart Hurricanes.

Turner, who has been managing the injury throughout the domestic season, left the field limping during the Scorchers' clash against Hobart Hurricanes. The surgery, conducted on Friday morning, raises concerns about the exact timeframe for his return, leaving the defending champions without their key player.

"Ashton Turner will miss the remainder of the KFC BBL-13 season following surgery this morning to repair a meniscus tear in his right knee," reads the official statement from the Scorchers.

"As Lucknow Super Giants secured Turner for a base price of Rs 1 crore in the IPL auction, the franchise now faces uncertainties about the player's fitness," adding to the narrative of Turner's future in the IPL.

"The incident saw him leave the field and take no further part in the match, with subsequent scans revealing surgery was required. An exact timeframe for Turner’s return will be determined in due course," the statement added, leaving fans in suspense about when they can expect to see their captain back in action.

As the Perth Scorchers cope well with Turner's absence in their recent match against Hobart Hurricanes, they are in the process of appointing a stand-in captain. Aaron Hardie and vice-captain Josh Inglis are potential candidates for the role. The defending champions, currently in second place in the BBL table, are set to face the Melbourne Renegades on December 26 at the Optus Stadium.
