Ishan Kishan held on to a stunner behind the stumps to dismiss Nepal’s well-set batter Sompal Kami in match number five of the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. Kami’s dismissal eventually led to a lower-order collapse as Nepal’s first innings total was dusted out at 230 by the Indian bowlers.

Remarkably, Kishan had dropped a sitter to reprieve dangerman Kushal Bhurtel earlier in the Nepal innings, before Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj tore through their line-up to signal India’s remarkable comeback.

During the 48th over of the Nepal innings, Sompal Kami attempted to steer Mohammed Shami down to deep third. However, the cricketer only managed to get a thick edge onto the Indian wicketkeeper Ishan Kishan, who snared an excellent catch diving to his right.

Earlier in the innings, Nepal opener Kushal Bhurtel provided his side a blazing start with his 25-ball 38 at the top. Despite racing to 65-0 inside their first 10 overs, Nepal slumped to 144-6 by the end of their 32nd over.

Aasif Sheikh top scored in the innings with his 58 while Sompal Kami’s 48 stretched Nepal’s score till 230 in the death.

Among Indians, Shardul Thakur got the first breakthrough before three-fers from Ravindra Jadeja and Mohammed Siraj completely floored their opponents. Mohammed Shami and vice-captain Hardik Pandya also pocketed a wicket each in the innings.

The match serves as a conclusion to the Group A set of Asia Cup 2023 fixtures, where the winner will secure one of the four slots for the Super Four round of the competition.
