MI Emirates fast bowler Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up a scintillating five-wicket haul in the opening match of the ILT20 2025 season against Dubai Capitals. Taking field at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium on January 11, the speedster conceded just 16 runs from his four overs to restrict the Capitals to 133-8 by the completion of their innings.
Notably, Farooqi also accounted for the downfall of Dubai Capitals’ well-set batter and lone half-centurion Brandon McMullen. Making his return during the slog overs, the speedster deceived McMullen with a cunning slower delivery to trigger a colossal Dubai Capitals batting collapse.
Farooqi deceives, Waseem juggles and McMullen walks back
Fazalhaq Farooqi struck within his opening spell with the key wicket of Dubai Capitals opener Shai Hope for a sluggish nine. With the Capitals aiming to go berserk in the backend of the innings after reaching 107-3 in 16 overs, Farooqi also halted the well-set stay of number three batter Brandon McMullen, who top-scored for his team with a fluent 42-ball 58.
The Afghanistan fast bowler sent down a sharp slower delivery to the half-centurion in the 17th over of the innings. Failing to read Farooqi’s change of pace, McMullen merely ended up chipping the ball towards Muhammad Waseem at mid-off, who completed a one-handed catch on his second attempt.
Fazalhaq Farooqi added three more wickets to his tally in his following over, which included the prized scalps of Rovman Powell and Dasun Shanaka to claim astonishing figures of 5-16.
Alzarri Joseph and Zahoor Khan also picked up a wicket each to restrict Dubai Capitals to just 133-8 from 20 overs after MI Emirates captain Nicholas Pooran had won the toss and opted to field first.
