The Netherlands were off to a flier in their final group-stage match of the T20 World Cup 2024 against Sri Lanka as premier pacer Vivian Kingma dismissed ace batter Pathum Nissanka cheaply.

The incident occurred in the very first over of the Lankan innings after the Dutch opted bowl upon winning the toss.

After playing a dot ball, Nissanka tried to accelerate on the second ball, a move that backfired on him as well as his team. His miscued shot found the safe hands of Sybrand Engelbrecht, who took a spectacular catch in the deep.

Coming from over the wicket, Kingma bowled a full-length delivery that swung away from Nissanka. However, as it was a full-pitched delivery, the Lankan opener was lured into an aerial shot, miscuing it in this process.

The ball went high up in the air, with Engelbrecht taking a sensational forward diving catch in the square third man.

After Kingma got Nissanka, Paul van Meekeren jolted Sri Lanka with another setback, dismissing Kamindu Mendis in the sixth over.

As of writing, the Lankan Lions were in a spot of bother, placed at 46 for two in 6.1 overs. Notably, the Dutch must chase the total inside 14 overs to pip Bangladesh (if the latter lose vs Nepal) and make it into the Super Eights.
