In a pivotal moment during the WPL 2025 final, Shabnim Ismail dismissed Shafali Verma in a plumb LBW wicket. Meanwhile, MI skipper Harmanpreet Kaur let out a huge roar as her team got a big breakthrough while defending a tricky total.

The WPL 2025 final went underway on March 15 at the Brabourne Stadium in Mumbai. Mumbai Indians Women batted first against the Delhi Capitals Women but faced early setbacks in Hayley Matthews and Yastika Bhatia.

From 14/2, skipper Harmanpreet Kaur rebuilt Mumbai’s innings with a half-century, scoring 66 off just 44 balls. Owing to her brilliance, MI-W finished with a competitive total of 149 runs.

While defending the target, Nat Sciver-Brunt got the first breakthrough for Mumbai Indians by bowling out Delhi Capitals captain, Meg Lanning. To further capitalise on the momentum, Shabnim Ismail fetched the big wicket of dangerous opener Shafali Verma.

Ismail bowled a clever off-cutter at a decent pace. She seemingly exploited Shafali’s tendency to plant her front foot across while playing the incoming delivery. 

Shafali tried to flick the ball but missed it completely, leaving her plumb in front with the impact right in line with the stumps, and with that, DC were reduced to 17/2 in 3 overs.

Meanwhile, the wicket was important for Mumbai Indians, considering Shafali’s tendency to play with aggressive and fearless intent. And MI captain Harmanpreet Kaur definitely understands it more than anybody else.

As the umpire raised the finger, she let out a huge roar, screaming in delight. She tightly hugged Shabnim Ismail as Mumbai Indians Women celebrated the monumental wicket.

That being said, if MI manages to defend this total today, they will clinch their second WPL title, after winning it during the inaugural WPL season in 2023.
