David Warner pumped out a brilliant century against South Africa in the second ODI of their five-match series. The cricketer unleashed 106 of his finest runs, in an innings glittered with elegant pulls, cuts and drives across Mangaung Oval’s turf in Bloemfontein.

The dynamic opening batsman eventually perished at a time when he looked well-set to convert his century into a double, as he failed to read Andile Phehlukwayo’s in-swinging delivery that kept low in the 33rd over of the Australian innings.

David Warner walks back with a smile after 106

David Warner, who scored a duck in the first ODI of the series, roared back into form with a thunderous ton in the second to lay out a platform for a huge Australian total. The left-hander formed a 109-run opening stand with Travis Head, and shared another 151 runs with number four Marnus Labuschagne for the third wicket.

The seasoned campaigner reached his 20th ODI ton in the 30th over of the innings. Shortly after his moment of triumph, the cricketer was cleaned up by Andile Phehlukwayo for 106. Warner’s gallivanting knock lived by his pulls and died by it too, as he failed to read Phehlukwayo’s in-swinging delivery that kept low.

The 36-year-old made his way back to the pavilion with a smile on his face, paving way for his teammates to unleash fury at the death against a struggling Proteas attack.

Labushagne also cracked a sparkling ton following Warner’s dismissal, as Australia mounted a daunting total in their 50 overs.

The ongoing series in South Africa serves as one of the final set of fixtures for both sides in their road towards the ODI World Cup 2023 in India next month.
