Indian captain Rohit Sharma and the selection committee unveiled team’s 15-player composition for the World Cup 2023 earlier this week. As one can expect, senior pros Virat Kohli, Jasprit Bumrah, Shreyas Iyer, KL Rahul all retained their slots in the line-up and their presence, alongside Sharma himself hold key to India’s quest for another title glory at home.

However, former opener Wasim Jaffer believes that a certain all-rounder from Gujarat will likely prove to be the most vital player for India’s chances in the tournament.

The 15-player Indian squad for the 2023 World Cup is injected with sublime all-rounder’s presence in the form of Ravindra Jadeja, Axar Patel and Hardik Pandya. However, former cricketer Wasim Jaffer holds Pandya the most vital to India’s chances at the multi-nation event.

Jaffer stated the same while speaking on ESPNCricinfo, considering the Gujarat star is currently one of the best white-ball all-rounders in the world.

Unsurprisingly, Pandya will serve as Rohit Sharma’s deputy in the tournament. The all-rounder has already been donning the leadership hat in the absence of Sharma in the past few months for the ‘Men in Blue’.

Team India, in the meantime, is currently in Sri Lanka for the ongoing Asia Cup 2023. In their opening match of the tournament against Pakistan in Kandy earlier this month, Pandya top-scored in the innings with his splendid 87.

His partnership with Ishan Kishan took India past the 200-run mark, and eventually to 266, after they were tottering at 66-4 at one stage.

Rohit Sharma and co. are now bracing themselves up for the Super Four round of the continental event, as they are slated to face Pakistan, Sri Lanka and Bangladesh in their race to the finals in the coming weeks.
