Mitchell Marsh Signifies David Warner’s Importance For World Cup 2023

Australian all-rounder Mitchell Marsh has unveiled David Warner’s role in team’s ODI set-up ahead of the upcoming World Cup 2023 in India. Several recent reports have indicated that Marsh is considering to become one of the openers for his side at the quadrennial event.

However, the all-rounder himself has rejected such claims, stating that the slot at the top is reserved for opening legend Warner.

Mitchell Marsh confirms Australia opening duo

Mitchell Marsh returned with impressive numbers from Australia’s three-match ODI series in India earlier this year as an opener. David Warner was out injured from the side, thus allowing Marsh to take up the mantle. The right-hander registered 194 runs across three innings, and was fittingly adjudged ‘Player of the Series’.

Despite his excellent touch with the bat and Warner’s struggles as an opener off late, Marsh recently stated that the latter will indeed continue opening the batting for Australia. The interim skipper also stated that Travis Head will occupy the other opener’s slot, while he himself will bat in the middle-order.

“I expect to bat middle order. “Things may change, but Davey is literally one of the GOATs of one-day cricket and white-ball cricket in general. We have Travis Head and Australia’s best-ever all-three-format player there, so I dare say I probably won’t be opening the batting.”

In the meantime, Marsh is leading Australia in a three-match T20I and five-match ODI series in South Africa. The visitors routed Proteas 3-0 in the T20Is, and took a 1-0 lead in the ODIs courtesy of their three-wicket win in Bloemfontein.

Warner, in his quest of runs, was dismissed for a duck by Marco Jansen. Meanwhile, Marsh bludgeoned two match-winning half-centuries against South Africa during the T20Is.
