Raging Delhi Capitals openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw survived a close call off the same delivery during their IPL 2024 faceoff against CSK on March 31.

Facing CSK speedster Mustafizur Rahman in the tenth over of the innings, Warner was reprieved through a dropped caught-and-bowl opportunity, while Shaw survived the subsequent runout chance at the non-striker's end.

In a rare cricketing incident, Delhi Capitals openers David Warner and Prithvi Shaw survived a close opportunity against CSK in match number 13 of the ongoing IPL 2024 season.

After racing to a 91-run opening partnership from just the first nine overs of the innings, Warner swatted back Mustafizur Rahman's length delivery with a crunching pull. 

However, the seamer was unable to grab the ball with his outstretched left hand, thus giving the well-set Capitals' opener a rare reprieve after the latter had already crossed the 50-run mark.

Moreover, the ricocheted ball also missed the non-striker's stumps when Shaw was visibly outside the crease.

Regardless of the twin missed opportunities, Warner and Shaw were dismissed by CSK bowlers within the next nine deliveries. While Rahman's slower delivery deceived Warner, Shaw edged one towards MS Dhoni off Ravindra Jadeja as Delhi Capitals slipped from 93-0 to 103-2.

The Capitals also lost Mitchell Marsh and Tristan Stubbs a while later, losing their stumps to Matheesha Pathirana in a single over. 

The match, marking the first home game for the Delhi Capitals this IPL 2024 season, is also a must-win for their so-far winless campaign.
