The Mumbai Cricket Association (MCA) has denied rumours that it had directed the security personnel of the Wankhede Stadium to prevent people from booing Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya.

Ever since Pandya has been appointed as the new captain of the franchise, he has been subjected to severe online and on-field criticisms from fans, especially from Rohit Sharma enthusiasts.

The star all-rounder was even jeered by the Ahmedabad and Hyderabad crowd in his first two appearances as Mumbai Indians captain this IPL 2024 season.

With no respite in sight for Hardik Pandya, one can expect the 30-year-old to receive a similar treatment at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai, when the home team will be taking field at the venue on April 1 against Rajasthan Royals.

MCA denies giving ‘instruction’ for Hardik’s naysayers

The MCA have denied rumors that it had instructed the Wankhede Stadium officials to prevent fans from booing Mumbai Indians captain Hardik Pandya this IPL 2024 season. Several earlier reports indicated that the MCA had implemented measures to kick out fans from the stadium if they were caught jeering the all-rounder.

Hardik Pandya has been boring the wrath of Mumbai Indians fans ever since he replaced decade-long skipper and five-time IPL winning captain Rohit Sharma.

On March 24, during Mumbai Indians opening game of the IPL 2024 season, a large segment of the Ahmedabad crowd booed Pandya. The cricketer received similar hostility at Hyderabad a couple of days later during his team’s high-scoring away bout against SRH.

Under the captaincy of Hardik Pandya, the Mumbai Indians franchise have succumbed to two huge defeats and are currently placed at the bottom of the IPL 2024 points table.

As of now, they are lined up to face Rajasthan Royals in match number 14 of the tournament in Mumbai on April 1.
