Veteran Mahmudullah makes Bangladesh fans jump in joy

Fans at the iconic Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium in Dhaka danced to the tunes of Mahmudullah’s blistering ball-striking during match 35 of the BPL 2024-25 season on Monday, January 27. After being treated to Dawid Malan’s fluent 37-ball 63 at the top of the order, Bangladeshi cricketing zealots witnessed a fiery 13-ball 24-run cameo from Mahmudullah as the senior middle-order batter boosted Fortune Barishal’s run-chase prospects against Khulna Tigers.

Earlier in the match, Khulna Tigers hauled 187-5 from 20 overs courtesy of a 27-ball half-century from opener Mohammad Naim, and an unbeaten 12-ball 27* from wicketkeeper-batter Mahidul Islam Ankon at the death.

For Fortune Barishal, Faheem Ashraf picked up two wickets in the innings while his teammates James Fuller, Mohammad Nabi and Ebadot Hossain chipped in with a wicket each.

In response, Dawid Malan led Barishal’s pursuit with a boundary-laden 63, before senior Bangladeshi cricketers Mushfiqur Rahim (24 off 17) and Mahmudullah (24 off 13) shaped valiant contributions in the middle overs. Faheem Ashraf clobbered 18* off just six balls with a boundary and two sixes as the defending champions cantered itself past the finishing line to mark their fifth successive win this BPL 2024-25 season.
