Fortune Barishal recorded its fourth win in a row in BPL 2024-25, this time consigning cellar-dwellers Sylhet Strikers to their fifth successive defeat of the tournament. Faheem Ashraf unfurled a match-defining spell with the ball for the Barishal before captain Tamim Iqbal headlined an easy run-chase to start off the final leg of the season at the Sher-e-Bangla National Cricket Stadium.

Sylhet Strikers opener George Munsey made his way back to the dugout in just the second over of the match courtesy of Fortune Barishal’s new ball spinner Mohammad Nabi. Fast bowler James Fuller also struck with the new ball with the key wicket of Zakir Hasan for just four in the third over.

In the final over of the powerplay, Faheem Ashraf removed Rony Talukdar and Kadeem Alleyne in the space of just three deliveries as the Strikers crashed to 34-4 in six overs. Nahidul Islam made a run-a-ball eight before the number six batter was knocked over by Ashraf as the Strikers lost half its side well inside the halfway stage of the innings.

Ahsan Bhatti at number four top-scored in the innings for the Sylhet Strikers with a sluggish 28 at a near run-a-ball before the well-set batter was caught out by Mahmudullah off Mohammad Nabi (2-26). James Fuller also picked up his second wicket of the match in the form of dangerman Jaker Ali after the wicketkeeper-batter raced to 24 from just 19 balls with three boundaries and a six.

Shortly after Rishad Hossain (1-24) toppled Tanzim Hasan Sakib for just 13, Faheem Ashraf mopped up the Strikers tail to claim astonishing figures of 5-7, his maiden five-wicket haul in BPL. With Ashraf running riot with the ball, the Strikers folded up for just 116 in 18.1 overs.

Strikers vs Barishal Highlights: Tamim Iqbal Navigates Barishal To Easy Win

Fortune Barishal captain and opening batter Tamim Iqbal led his team from the front in the run-chase by smacking a regal 52* from 51 balls. Biding his team at the crease, the elegant left-hander belted six boundaries and shared an unbroken 81-run partnership with number four batter and fellow senior cricketer Mushfiqur Rahim.

Earlier in the chase, the Barishal lost Towhid Hridoy for just six to Nahidul Islam in the third over of the innings. Dawid Malan at number three also made his way back to the sheds for just nine after getting toppled by Sumon Khan at the edge of the opening powerplay.

Nonetheless, the unbeaten partnership from Iqbal and Rahim (42* off 30) ensured the Fortune Barishal cruised past their moderate target with eight wickets and four overs to spare.
