Haris Rauf was angry at Khushdil Shah (Source: @kuchbhi1234567/X.com)
The ongoing first match of the Champions Trophy 2025 between Pakistan and New Zealand is seemingly slipping away from the hands of the hosts and once again its the poor fielding that is holding a big part in it. Frustration and annoyance are two adjectives to best describe the state of pacer Haris Rauf after sheer lack of attentiveness costed Pakistan big runs in the crucial final overs of the game.
In the 43rd over, Haris Rauf unleashed a full length delivery around the middle and leg stump region as Latham flicked it away aerially. Khushdil Shah, who was stationed at the deep backward square leg came forward, faiuled to judge the flight of the ball as he stood 5-7 yards inside the ropes.
As expected, the maximum went over his head and just cleared the rope for a biggie. Haris Rauf looked absolutely irritated and agitated at Shah, he was fuming at him for his lack of alertness. Mohd. Rizwan was also annoyed as he covered his face with the gloves. Had Khushdil been at the correct spot, he would have easily grabbed on to the simple catch.
Kiwis Dominate At Karachi
New Zealand posted a massive 320/5 in 50 overs against Pakistan in the Champions Trophy, their second-highest total in the tournament. Will Young (107) and Tom Latham (118*) scored brilliant centuries, with Glenn Phillips adding a quickfire 61.
Despite early wickets, including Kane Williamson's dismissal for one, New Zealand's middle order capitalized on the partnership between Young and Latham. Pakistan’s pacers struggled, with Shaheen Shah Afridi going wicketless and Haris Rauf conceding 83 runs. Abrar Ahmed, Khushdil Shah, and Agha Salman were economical, but Pakistan's fielding let them down, particularly in the final overs.
