Australian tailender Mitchell Starc perished off the first ball of his innings against Netherlands after he was holed out over mid-wicket region by Colin Ackermann. The cricketer, in his quest of a final-over flourish, became Logan van Beek’s fourth victim of the innings and his second in succession in the final over as Australia combined 399-8 in their World Cup 2023 shootout against the Dutchmen in Delhi.

Ackermann pouches a stunner to prevent AUS 400

Mitchell Starc, arriving to the crease in the 50th over of the Australian innings following Glenn Maxwell’s dismissal, powered a golf-swing over cow corner in an attempt to clear the ropes. However, the tailender ended up miscuing the shot towards mid-wicket region, where an alert Colin Ackermann completed a sensational running catch.

Ackermann’s fielding vigilance prevented at least a couple of handy final-over runs as Australia ended their innings at 399-8 from their 50 overs.

Colin Ackermann’s street-smart fielding effort prevented Australia from a certain 400 as they accumulated just 10 runs from the final over. In the preceding four overs of the innings, Australian entertainer Glenn Maxwell bludgeoned 77 runs for his country all while reducing his partner Pat Cummins as a mere spectator at the other end.

Maxwell pounded eight sixes and nine boundaries in his 44-ball 106 to dethrone David Warner’s 104 as the top-scorer of the Australian innings.

Middle-order batting veterans Steve Smith and Marnus Labuschagne also conjured up sparkling fifties at better than run-a-ball as Australia aim to boost up their World Cup 2023 net run-rate.
