Sri Lanka will square off against England in match 25 of the ongoing 2023 World Cup at the M. Chinnaswamy Stadium, Bengaluru. The event is set to take place on October 26 and set to commence at 2:00 PM IST.

Both teams have acquired two points from four matches so far.

Openers: Pathum Nissanka and Kusal Mendis

Sri Lanka's top order is one of their main strengths. Although they have lacked consistent big partnership from the openers, Kusal Perera and Pathum Nissanka are likely to open the batting for the Island nation. The former is an attacking batter and scored 78 against Australia where most of the batters failed. His partner, Nissanka found his touch back and on a spree of three consecutive fifties. The right-handed batter is their third highest run-scorer of the tourney with 166 runs from four innings.


Middle-Order: Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama, Angelo Mathews and Charith Asalanka

The interim captain, Kusal Mendis has been in red hot form. He scored 158 against Afghanistan in the Warm-up fixture and also scored another ton against Pakistan. Sadeera Samarawickrama has been a great assistant to him in majority of his big knocks. He has racked up 230 runs from four innings and is the leading run-getter for Sri Lanka in the World Cup.

In a recent development, Angelo Mathews has replaced Matheesha Pathirana in Sri Lanka's squad for the World Cup. The veteran is likely to play his first game of the marquee event against England. In addition, Charith Asalanka bolsters their batting core by playing a key role in the lower middle order. He's more of a finisher to the side as was the case during the Sri Lanka versus Pakistan game in the Asia Cup Super Fours.

All-rounders: Dhananjaya de Silva and Dunith Wellalage

Sri Lanka could bench Chamika Karunaratne and Dushan Hemantha and bring back Dunith Wellalage. Dhananjaya de Silva offers right arm off spin while Dunith Wellalage is someone who adds the variant of left-arm orthodox spin. De Silva is a more mature batter while Wellalage can play some quickfire with the bat in hand lower down the order.

Bowlers: Maheesh Theekshana, Kasun Rajitha and Dilshan Madushanka
