In a remarkable achievement, Glenn Maxwell has slammed the fastest-ever World Cup century, surpassing the record of Aiden Markram. The swashbuckling finisher unlocked the landmark during Australia's ongoing World Cup clash against the Netherlands at the Arun Jaitley stadium in Delhi.

Coming at number six, Maxwell clobbered nine fours and eight massive sixes to compile a 40-ball hundred, the fastest-ever in ODI World Cups.

He joined the middle when Australia were in a spot of bother, placed at 266 for four in 39 overs. He took some time to set his eyes in the middle before going berserk and taking the Dutch bowlers to the cleaners.

In the 49th over, Maxwell went after ace Dutch all-rounder Bas de Leede to power Australia to a mammoth total. He started off with two boundaries before smashing the right-arm pacer for two huge sixes and completing a belligerent century.

He celebrated the feat aggressively and dedicated the century to his new-born daughter. However, soon after scoring the hundred, the explosive batter was dismissed for 106 off Logan van Beek's bowling.

Riding on Maxwell's fireworks, Australia posted a whopping 399-run total in the game.
