Sri Lanka will face England in match 25 of the ongoing 2023 World Cup in Bengaluru's M. Chinnaswamy Stadium. The event will take place on October 26 and will begin at 2:00 PM IST. So far, both sides have two points after four games.

Sri Lanka began their camp with a hat-trick of defeats. When the Proteas men scored 428 runs, the most ever in a World Cup innings, they were on the wrong side of the record books. Following a tight loss to Pakistan, Australia grabbed their first points of the competition by hammering Sri Lanka. Finally, the Island nation achieved their first victory after defeating the Netherlands in their most recent match.

England, on the other side, began their campaign with a loss against New Zealand in the curtain raiser. With nine wickets in hand, Devon Conway and Rachin Ravindra helped them chase down 283 runs.

The England team responded with a victory over Bangladesh, with Dawid Malan scoring a century. It was followed by an upset by Afghanistan, whose spin outperformed the English batsmen. Harry Brook was the lone contributor, with fifty under his belt. They went on to suffer yet another setback when South Africa thrashed them by 229 runs. At the moment, the. The team led by Jos Buttler is ranked ninth in the points table.

The English team suffered a massive jolt when  Reece Topley got injured in the last game. He  broke his finger and therefore set to fly back home. Brydon Carse has been named as the replacement for Topley in the squad.

So, how do the England predicted XI looks against Sri Lanka? Let us hover through it.

Openers: Jonny Bairstow and Dawid Malan

The English team haven't fared well so far in the tournament but there's nothing to worry much about the opening pair. Dawid Malan scored 140 against Bangladesh and is their top scorer with 192 runs from four innings. His opening partner, Jonny Bairstow has lacked consistency but can be disastrous for the bowlers in the venue of Chinnaswamy. The swashbuckler did score a fifty against Bangladesh but is yet to peak.

Middle-Order: Joe Root, Ben Stokes, Harry Brook and Jos Buttler

Joe Root has been the second best batter for England in terms of most runs - 172 runs in four innings. But when it comes to consistency, he has more fifties in the group than anybody else. The former England captain initiated the tourney with fifties against New Zealand and Bangladesh. But he failed to glitter in the last couple of encounters.

England's middle order has failed to prove its mettle. It may consist of Ben Stokes, Harry Brook and Jos Buttler in the upcoming contest against Sri Lanka but only Brook has a fifty and it was against Afghanistan. Stokes is yet to peak since he returns from injury while Jos Buttler's recent numbers do not justify his potential. However, on paper, this is a sensational batting order and on their day can turn down the opponent with ease.

All-rounders: Sam Curran and David Willey

England may bring back Sam Curran in the playing XI to replace injured Reece Topley who was supposed to fly back with a broken finger. Topley has been replaced by Brydon Carse in the squad. Curran is an efficient all-rounder who had a stupendous season in the English domestic circuit for Surrey and Oval Invincibles this year. But it is upto him to transpire the good form in the international stature.

David Willey is a brilliant option with the new ball and one could see him in action with the ball in hand. He is a terrific lower order white ball batter and that makes his presence bolster their batting depth.

Bowlers: Adil Rashid, Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood.

Adil Rashid is England's leading wicket-taker in the ongoing tourney. He has started six scalps from four matches. Rashid is likely to get more assistance from the wickets as the mega-event progresses.

England's pure bowlers include Gus Atkinson and Mark Wood. Atkinson has been impressive in the World Cup and has the knack for wickets. He also had a brilliant domestic season this year. Wood on the other hand has been expensive. He went for a plethora of runs and did not look edgy or sharp. But due to his raw pace, England shall back him in the playing XI.
