Day 1 of the ongoing third Test between India and England at Rajkot witnessed local boy Ravindra Jadeja pull the home side out of trouble after a poor start.

With India losing their first three wickets for 33, Jadeja and skipper Rohit Sharma consolidated first and then milked England bowlers for runs during their 204-run stand, where the former contributed 84 runs.

Jadeja's knock has been chiefly flawless; however, his innings could have ended on 93 if not for Ben Stokes and Co's decision not to call upon DRS.

Tom Hartley, who already claimed one wicket, induced a forward defence from Jadeja on the final ball of the 73rd over, where the ball struck him pad first, which the on-field umpire thought otherwise.

However, replays suggested that the ball struck the pad first and would have hit the middle stump, much to the anguish of England fans.

Jadeja added 77 runs with debutant Sarfaraz, who has done the bulk of the scoring, slamming his maiden Test fifty in just 48 balls.

Meanwhile, Jadeja has slammed his fourth Test hundred, having already notched up 3000 red-ball runs for India in his 70th appearance in the format. The talented all-rounder has been one of the most consistent batters for India in the past few years, carrying the lower middle order with his batting time and again.

At stumps on day 1, India are 326 for 5, with Jadeja and Kuldeep Yadav batting on 110* and 1*, respectively.
