For the first time in the ongoing Test series against England, the Indian team put on a 100-run partnership for any wicket on Thursday. In the first two Test matches, Indian batting rode on the back of individual performances.

Once again, India found themselves in early trouble at 33 for three inside the first hour of play on day 1 of the third Test. But Ravindra Jadeja's promotion to number five worked wonders for them.

He joined hands with Rohit Sharma, and the duo led a remarkable recovery. They eased off the pressure by cautiously taking the innings ahead. Rohit freed his arms once he got set by taking on bowlers like James Anderson and Tom Hartley.

At Lunch on day 1, Jadeja and Rohit Sharma shared a fifty-run stand and, thereby, denied India of another collapse.

With the pitch getting easier to bat on, the runs came much faster. India didn't lose a single wicket in the second session as the duo went on to stitch a 100-run partnership by the end of the 39th over.

Rohit Sharma brings up his 11th Test century off 157 balls

On the first ball of the 46th over, Rohit Sharma smashed Joe Root for a six and, thereby, surpassed MS Dhoni to have the second-most number of sixes in Test cricket for India. Jadeja and Sharma added 92 runs in the second session as England toiled hard to find a breakthrough.

Soon, Rohit completed his eleventh Test ton in 157 balls. The skipper stood up once again when it mattered the most. Jadeja gave him a solid support at the other end. He is currently unbeaten on 93 off 177 balls, while the Indian skipper blazed his way to 131 off 196 deliveries. At the end of 73 overs, India are cruising at 269 for 4 at the moment of writing.
