In a historic moment during his 100th Test match, Indian spin maestro Ravichandran Ashwin achieved a remarkable feat as he claimed a five-wicket haul, with one of his victims being Ben Foakes, who fell prey to a careless slog sweep attempt.

With England's half the side inside the hut in the first session of Day 3 of the Dharamsala Test, Ben Foakes and Joe Root were burdened with the responsibility to somehow avoid an innings defeat in the five-game series finale.

However, the man playing his 100th red ball game proved to be too good for the mighty English force. After claiming four victims, Ashwin destroyed one of England's final hopes right after lunch.

Initially troubling him with carom balls, Ashwin switched his plans and bowled a tossed-up delivery outside the off-stump line. He lured Foakes into playing a big shot, and the wicket-keeper batter fell right into the trap.

Ben Foakes missed a rash slog sweep shot and the ball crashed into the middle and the leg stump to end Foakes 17 ball resistance.

In hindsight, the slog sweep was absolutely necessary as Foakes and Root were trying to rebuild the innings. He could have stayed patient and played an anchor role for Root, who has been headstrong so far.

Regardless, Foakes' rash shot awarded Ravichandran Ashwin his 36th career five-wicket haul on the eve of his 100th Test. He couldn't have dreamt of a better fairytale proceeding on the most remarkable day of his Test career.

With that, Joe Root is left stranded on one end as the wickets are tumbling from the other end of the crease. At this rate, England is staring at a humiliating inning defeat in a series that has already been lost.
