In the sixth match of the Big Bash League (BBL) 2024, played at Adelaide Oval between the Adelaide Strikers and Melbourne Stars on December 20, England’s Ben Duckett had a forgettable debut for the Stars. Coming in with hopes of making a big impact, Duckett was dismissed for a golden duck by Strikers skipper Matthew Short.

Duckett opened the innings alongside Sam Harper, chasing a target of 166 after the Strikers posted 165/6 in their 20 overs. However, the debutant’s stay at the crease was short-lived. On the third ball of the first over, a full-length delivery from Short trapped Duckett plumb in front of the stumps. The umpire raised his finger for an LBW, ending Duckett’s innings without scoring a run.

Strikers Post 166 Target For Stars

Earlier in the game, the Strikers were put to bat first and in no time their top order was seen struggling, with Matthew Short and Jake Weatherald departing for just 11 runs each, courtesy of Adam Milne and Glenn Maxwell. However, D’Arcy Short’s solid 60 off 42 balls, supported by Alex Ross’s quick 35, helped the Strikers set a competitive total.

For the Stars, Adam Milne and Peter Siddle picked up two wickets each, while Doug Warren and Glenn Maxwell chipped in with one apiece to restrict the Strikers.

At the time of writing, Marcus Stoinis' Stars are at 62-3 in 6 overs.
