Babar Azam took 69 deliveries to get to his 30th ODI fifty on Monday (October 23) during Pakistan's all-important World Cup clash against Afghanistan in Chennai. Under challenging conditions where batsmen tend to struggle runs at fluent pace, the Men in Green skipper played 30 dot deliveries before reaching the milestone.

Nevertheless, the entire PCB support staff, including director Mickey Arthur, clapped for Babar to congratulate him after his brilliant knock. As Mohammad Rizwan fell cheaply and Imam-ul-Haq's form has not been great in the competition, Babar held the key for Pakistan to take them to a respectable total.

And he delivered, as Babar stepped up when it mattered the most against their continent rivals.

Before reaching the half-century, Babar only smacked three fours, and had a strike rate of 72.5. Needless to say, all ardent fans, as of writing, are looking at him to convert his start into a substantial one.

Opting to bat, Pakistan lost Imam-ul-Haq just after the 10th over. Abdullah Shafique did his job, having scored 58 off 75 deliveries to steady the ship. However, Mohammad Rizwan, who was in impeccable form, fell after scoring a paltry 10-ball 8.

As of writing, Babar is batting on 64* off 87 balls, with Pakistan reaching 195/4 after 40.5 overs.
