Babar Azam is one of the pillars of Pakistan's batting line-up and his poor returns before the Champions Trophy was a huge cause of concern. The batter was determined to score runs and it showed in the first game of Champions Trophy 2025, but the batter could not convert his fifty into a big one, and departed on 64 off 90 balls.

However, despite scoring runs, his knock is expected to not go well with the fans as Pakistan are chasing 321 and they needed their star batter to score runs with more intent. The batter also knew it and the plan probably was to take the game deep and then go for the big shot.

He started going for some big hits when he reached fifty, but eventually, in the process, lost his wicket against New Zealand skipper Mitchell Santner. It was a tossed up delivery on off, inviting Babar Azam to go for a big shot. He did that but played a sweep shot that only produced a huge top edge and the ball went high in the air towards right of the mid-wicket fielder.

Kane Williamson settled under it and took a fine catch, and it turned out to be a big blow for the home team. Mitchell Santner, naturally was pumped up after taking the big wicket and came up with a passionate celebration, showing what it means to him and his country.

The wicket dashed hopes of Pakistan's revival in the chase and a lot of questions are likely to be asked on the intent of top order during the powerplay.
