After beating England in Delhi, Afghanistan - all of a sudden - are turning out to be a dangerous outfit in this ICC Cricket World Cup 2023 in India. At Chennai, the Hashmatullah Shahidi-led side is pushing another top-ranked team towards cliff-end as the New Zealand middle-order is falling like a pack of cards against Afghan bowling's might.

Afghanistan's fourth-bowling change, Azmatullah Omarzai, literally turned the table in his team's way. On his second delivery of the day, Omarzai bowled Rachin Ravindra, but three balls later, he turned the heat at maximum by sending Will Young back to the hut. The medium pacer removed both the set batter in an over.

The right-arm seamer used his intelligence as he dished the last ball of the ball in the corridor of uncertainty, and Young fell into the trap at 54. The half-centurion got a fuller-length delivery outside the off-stump, and the ball late swung into the batter, who got a thick inside edge to the left of the keeper, Iram Alikhil.

Kissing the inside edge, the ball went towards the keeper sharply but Alikhil dived to his left and pouched

The Afghan camp went up straight; however, the umpires needed some assistance from upstairs. The third umpire didn't take too long, as the decision was made in a blink of an eye.

In the following over, Rashid Khan joined the company to outfox Daryl Mitchell as the Kiwis lost three wickets in nine balls. Although, Tom Latham and Glenn Phillips are looking to stitch a small partnership after the middle-order collapse caused by Omarzai and Rashid.

At the time of writing, the Kiwis are at 142/4 after 31 overs, with Phillips batting on 19* and Latham assisting him with his 12*.
