The SA20 match between the Durban’s Super Giants and the Joburg Super Kings went down to the wire as the Super Kings prevailed in the Super over. The enthralling contest also had some viral moments, including Donovan Ferreira’s last-ball run-out that kept his team alive in the match.
However, the most talked-about moment of the game occurred between Aiden Markram and Ferreira as things got heated between the two South African teammates who are playing for different teams in the SA20.
Ferreira's death stare makes Markram furious
The heated staredown happened during Super Giants’ run chase as Aiden Markram was in the middle, as the team needed a tricky 206 runs to win the match. In the 7th over of the chase, Ferreira came to bowl and Markram blocked the good-length ball delivered by the Super Kings bowler.
Ferreira had a fierce look in his eyes as he gave a death stare to his national teammate, and this didn’t sit well with Markram who looked furious as the event unfolded.
The Proteas batter, Markram, didn’t say much, but according to the journalist Lawrence Bailey from South Africa, he completely blanked Ferreira after the over and also ignored him during the Super Over. Ferreira tried to start a conversation, but Markram looked disinterested as he avoided both him and Super Kings captain, Faf Du Plessis.
Could this staredown hamper Ferreira's World Cup ambition?
South Africa is yet to reveal their squad for the T20 World Cup, scheduled to take place next month, and the Proteas squad will be led by Aiden Markram, who has been taking care of the captaincy duties. Ferreira is in the form of his life as the player has been winning games for his side, but this unnecessary staredown with his national captain could come back to haunt him.
Markram is generally known as a cool and calm customer and this behaviour from Ferreira might not go well with the captain and this could potentially keep Ferreira out of the Proteas World Cup squad.
Ferreira has the last laugh as Super Kings win in Super Over
The 27-year-old player had the last laugh as his heroics helped the Joburg Super Kings clinch the game. The Super Giants were on the verge of a win as they needed a solitary run on the last ball of the game. However, Wiaan Mulder bowled a delivery wide from the batter as he missed his shot and Ferreira, doing the keeping duties, charged towards the ball and inflicted a quick run-out.
He was crucial behind the stumps for his side, but he also chipped in with the bat as the explosive player smacked 33 off 10 balls and it made the difference in the end.
