In a high-stakes T20 World Cup 2024 clash between Sri Lanka and South Africa at Nassau County Stadium, Proteas skipper Aiden Markram showcased his class by smashing a humongous six off Nuwan Thusara on June 3.

South Africa started with high hopes, but Sri Lanka claimed an early wicket, dismissing Reeza Hendricks. With the opener sent back, Aiden Markram joined the crease at number 3. 

He immediately made his presence felt by hitting a powerful six, signalling a strong comeback with Sri Lanka setting a modest target of 78 runs.


The spectacular incident occurred in the 4th over of the match. Right-arm pacer Nuwan Thusara bowled his first over against the South African star batter. Thusara delivered an away swinger on a fuller length outside off.

Markram took a stride forward and hit it through the line, executing a lofted extra cover drive to perfection. With a nice extension of the elbows, the ball sailed a distance of 72 meters.

Markram held his pose after playing the stunning shot, a testament to his exquisite technique. However, his stint was short-lived as he departed after scoring 12 runs off 14 balls.

At the time of writing, South Africa needs 52 runs in 86 balls, with Quinton de Kock and Tristan Stubbs at the crease.
