Wanindu Hasaranga promoted himself to No. 4 on Monday during Sri Lanka’s T20 World Cup 2024 clash against South Africa at Nassau County International Cricket Stadium, New York. However, the Sri Lankan skipper left in embarrassment, as Keshav Maharaj dismissed him for no run.

After watching the Sri Lankans’ struggles in the early half of the innings, Hasaranga had to play as an aggressor to shift the gear. However, Maharaj, who came to bowl the ninth over of the innings, did not allow him to do so. The Sri Lankan captain danced down the track for a slog, only to be beaten by a sharp turn by Maharaj before Quinton de Kock stumped him in a very bizarre way.

The South African wicket-keeper had his hand on his head, as he was lucky to have him stumped.

At the time of writing this, Sri Lanka are in tatters, slipping to 40/5 after 10 overs. Charith Asalanka is the only designated batter in the middle as of now, and if they want to finish with a respectable total, Angelo Mathews and Dasun Shanaka must contribute with handy knocks.

For South Africa, Anrich Nortje returned figures of 2-0-4-2, while Keshav Maharaj took 2/11 off his first two overs.
