USA's hard-hitting batter Aaron Jones grabbed the limelight on day one of the T20 World Cup as his blistering unbeaten knock powered the co-hosts to a thumping victory over Canada in the tournament opener.

Coming at number four, Jones struck a belligerent 40-ball 94*, helping the United States chase a daunting 194-run total comfortably with 14 balls to spare.

Although the batter hit ten gigantic maximums, including a 103m monster, his final six was icing on the cake as it ensured USA's victory.

The incident occurred during the eighteenth over of USA's innings when the co-hosts were on the verge of a clinical win, thanks to a scintillating stand between Andreas Gous and Jones.

Canada's off-break bowler Nikhil Dutta had a torrid start to the over, with Jones smashing him for a boundary and a six. The dynamic right-hander played a dot ball before finishing off the game in style with another maximum.

It was a full length ball from Dutta as Jones went down on one knee to execute a powerful slog sweep. He hit it so powerfully that the ball sailed into the mid wicket stands for a huge six. His heroics reminded Indian fans of MS Dhoni, who used to finish chases with winning sixes.

With this victory, USA opened their account in the T20 World Cup points table. They will take on Pakistan in their next game at the same venue on June 6.
