In the ongoing 15th match of CPL 2024, Barbados Royals faced an early blow after being asked to bat first by Trinbago Knight Riders' captain Kieron Pollard at the Kensington Oval, Bridgetown.

Pollard's decision to bowl first proved to be spot on, as Akeal Hosein struck twice in the opening over, and delivered a dream start for his side.

Akeal Hosein Provides Dream Start To Knight Riders

On the second ball of the match, Akeal Hosein dismissed the explosive Rahkeem Cornwall for a duck, making it his third consecutive duck in the tournament. Cornwall, known for his hard-hitting abilities, was undone by a sharp delivery that forced him to depart without troubling the scoreboard.

This early setback left Barbados Royals reeling, and their trouble increased when Alick Athanaze, coming in at No. 3, and also couldn’t last long at the crease. He followed Cornwall back to the pavilion without scoring, falling to Hosein in the same over.

Quinton de Kock's Explosive Knock

However, Quinton de Kock, the South African wicketkeeper-batter, was at the crease and determined to turn the tide. He took his time initially but found his rhythm in the 5th over bowled by Terrance Hinds.

This over turned out to be a crucial one for the Royals as de Kock unleashed his full range of attacking shots, and made 21 runs off it.

The fireworks began with the second ball, where de Kock dispatched a poor ball down the leg side for a towering six. It was a back-of-a-length delivery, and de Kock made no mistake and pulled it over deep fine leg, and sent the ball soaring for a maximum.

On the fourth ball of the same over, de Kock capitalised on another loose delivery and flicked a fuller-length ball over mid-on for a boundary. His intent was clear as he went after the bowler and showed no mercy to anything that was slightly off-target. Next, de Kock slashed at a full and wide delivery outside off and sliced it over point for another four.

The final flourish came on the last ball of the over, where Hinds delivered a short ball around middle and off. This time, de Kock was quick to transfer his weight onto the back foot and pulled it deep into the stands over deep mid-wicket for another massive six.

Just when it looked like de Kock might build a match-winning innings, his aggressive approach was cut short in the 7th over by an excellent delivery from Waqar Salamkheil. The Afghan spinner produced an unplayable ball, which turned sharply and deceived de Kock, and forced him to depart for a well-made 48 off 30 balls.

After he departed no player of the Royals was able to build a partnership and wickets kept falling at regular intervals. At the time of writing BR have lost 4 wickets at 91 runs.
