Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) named a strong 17-player squad for the upcoming Asia Cup 2023 earlier this month. All-round veteran Shakib Al Hasan was reinstated back as captain, replacing injured Tamim Iqbal at the continental event.

Bangladesh will launch their Asia Cup 2023 campaign with a match against co-hosts Sri Lanka at Kandy’s Pallekele International Cricket Stadium on August 31. As senior batter Tamim Iqbal continues to recover from his injury, the BCB called-up team’s 2020 Under-19 World Cup stars Shamim Hossain Patwary and Tanzid Hasan Tamim for their Asia Cup 2023 squad. While Shamim has played 17 T20Is for Bangladesh so far, the latter of the two is yet to make his international debut.
