Swashbuckling English batter Phil Salt was at his destructive best in his side's first T20 World Cup Super Eights encounter against West Indies at Daren Sammy Stadium in St Lucia.

Chasing a daunting 181-run target, England lost Jos Buttler to Roston Chase's wily off-spin in a critical juncture of the game.

However, Salt continued his onslaught, forming a sensational third-wicket stand with Jonny Bairstow to help England get past the finish line.

The keeper-batter took a particular liking for Windies allrounder Romario Shepherd, hammering him for 30 runs in a single over.

The incident occurred during the 16th over of England's innings when they were in a commanding position, needing 40 runs from the last five overs for a win. Salt's brutal assault further eased out the equation for the English side.

After completing his fifty with a glorious boundary through the off side, Salt thumped Shepherd for a massive six straight down the ground.

He played a cheeky uppercut in the third ball, while smashing the next two balls over the fence for gigantic maximums. He concluded the over in style with a boundary, collecting 30 runs off the over.

Riding on his exceptional 87*-run knock, England chased down the total with 15 balls to spare. With the emphatic win, the Englishmen opened their account in the Super Eights points table.
