Stallions top-order batter Babar Azam got his team off to a flier against Mohammad Rizwan’s Markhors in match number four of the Pakistan Champions One-Day Cup 2024 season. Batting at number three and arriving to the crease following the early dismissal of Yasir Khan, Babar belted eight boundaries in his fluent 44-ball knock to steer Stallions past the 50-run mark inside nine overs.

The legendary Pakistan batter smeared five of those boundaries in succession off Markhors fast bowler Shahnawaz Dahani.

After Stallions reached 27-1 in seven overs, Markhors captain Mohammad Rizwan employed his 26-year-old paceman Shahnawaz Dahani to deliver the eighth over of the innings to Babar Azam. The former Pakistan captain gleefully accepted Rizwan’s proposal as he belted Dahani for five successive boundaries to accumulate 20 runs from his sole over of the evening.

Courtesy of Babar’s five-ball batting exhibition, the Stallions raced to 47-1 at the end of the eighth over and significantly improved their innings run-rate while chasing 232.

Babar Azam was eventually dismissed by Markhors leg-spinner Zahid Mahmood in the 16th over of the innings as the Stallions slipped to 79-4.

Earlier in the match, Markhors tallied 231 runs from 45 overs after winning the toss and opting to bat first. Iftikhar Ahmed top-scored in the innings with 60 runs from 66 balls with eight boundaries to his name. Salman Agha also shaped an exciting half-century in the middle overs, while captain Mohammad Rizwan (33 off 39) and Abdul Samad (37 off 35) chipped in with valiant 30s.

Among the Stallions bowlers, Mehran Mumtaz picked up three wickets at an expense of 56 runs from 10 overs. Jahandad Khan bagged four during his 10-over spell, and he even dismissed the likes of dangerman Fakhar Zaman and well-set Salman Agha.

Later in the game, Stallions succumbed to a huge 126-run defeat to hand table-toppers Markhors their second win of the Champions One-Day Cup 2024 season.
