MS Dhoni has gradually become synonymous with the CSK franchise. He has been with the team since the league's inception, leading them to five IPL title wins. The man's contribution and leadership skills have become a legend in the history of the team’s journey.

MSD has become such an important and integral part of the CSK system that they are having trouble letting him go. Recently, there have been reports that the franchise requested BCCI to bring back the rule, allowing a player who has retired from international cricket for over five years to play as an uncapped player. This will enable them to retain MS Dhoni for a lower price and help them strategise during the auction to form a strong squad.

Why should CSK let MS Dhoni retire from IPL?

MS Dhoni has been a legend of the game and an excellent servant for India and CSK. However, even his biggest fans will agree that the man is well past his prime and is just carrying on to meet the demands of the franchise. It is high time that MS Dhoni hangs up his boots and lets his legacy live on rather than stretching his career for one more season.

At this stage, it looks like the four retentions (if BCCI allows) will be Jasprit Bumrah, Rohit Sharma, Hardik Pandya, and Suryakumar Yadav. In that case, MI will have to release Ishan Kishan and devise strategies to buy him back or have an RTM on him during the mega auction if he is still part of their plan. 

How does Ishan Kishan fit in CSK?

  • Ruturaj Gaikwad will be one of CSK's retentions and will probably continue opening for them in the upcoming times. Gaikwad is a steady batter who looks to build his innings at the start and then take the attack to the opposition once he is set. With his aggressive attitude, Ishan can complement Gaikwad’s batting style, allowing his skipper the time to play his own game and help the team towards formidable totals.

Will Delhi Capitals release Rishabh Pant?

When they restructured their squad, Rishabh Pant was at the centre of Delhi Capital’s plan. Soon, he was entrusted with the captaincy role of the franchise with hopes of a brighter future. However, as a skipper, Pant has failed to lead them to their maiden title and as a batter, he has come up with some brilliant match-winning knocks here and there but has failed to show the consistency expected of him. The DC management is on its new journey to build a winning squad and might think ahead of the Indian star. 

How does Rishabh Pant fit in CSK?

  • Even though he did not get the results, Rishabh Pant’s captaincy style often earned him praise from cricket experts and critics. He has a knack for thinking outside the box and is not shy about trying new things on the field. This is precisely what made MS Dhoni a successful captain. As Ruturaj Gaikwad has been projected as CSK’s next captain, Pant might not get the role immediately, but he can be a great contributor to the team's leadership core.
  • Besides, if MSD retires, it will create a vacuum in the CSK line-up, which Pant can fill. His ability to bat as per the match situation and deliver under pressure will be of great importance to CSK.

Will Rajasthan Royals release Dhruv Jurel?

Dhruv Jurel has emerged to prominence with his brilliant batting show for RR. Batting in the lower-middle order, Jurel has often played some valuable knocks under pressure and has bailed the team out of trouble. But Rajasthan Royals might have to release their prodigy as their most probable retentions are Sanju Samson, Yuzvendra Chahal, Yashasvi Jaiswal, and Riyan Parag. 

Thus, if Jurel is still part of their plans, the Royals will either have to re-buy him during the auction or use RTM on him. 

How does Dhruv Jurel fit in CSK?

  • Dhruv Jurel will be a like-to-like replacement for MS Dhoni. Keeping wickets and batting in the lower-middle order as a finisher is the exact role that CSK might look for in replacing the Great Man. Dhruv Jurel’s ability to come and play dynamic knocks under pressure will be something CSK will want him to do for them. 
  • Also, even if MS Dhoni retires as a player, it is almost certain that he will be a part of CSK, either as a mentor or coach. Therefore, Jurel will get proper guidance from the best in the business to improve his finishing game and dream of a spot on the national team.
