On Saturday, November 22, the 50,000 spectators at the Perth Stadium witnessed history as the hosts registered a solid eight-wicket win over England to finish the Test in just two days. Notably, it was a low-scoring thriller as England, batting first, collapsed for 172 runs. In reply, Australia had an even worse day as the Steve Smith-led side tumbled for 132 runs. Despite a lead of 40 runs, England failed to capitalise and set a target of 204 runs.

Eventually, Australia rectified their mistake, and Travis Head's century helped the hosts conquer England in the first Ashes Test and also extend their winning streak in the ongoing WTC 2025-2027 cycle.

Meanwhile, this article will shed light on the updated WTC standings following England's embarrassing defeat.

England's final hopes in serious danger; Australia climbs further

Talking about the updated WTC 2025-2027 table, Australia now have four wins in four matches, taking their PCT to 100. Meanwhile, England, on the other hand, are still placed 6th on the table and have 36.11 PCT.

Notably, England have played six Tests and have won just two matches and lost three games. Notably, only Bangladesh, New Zealand and West Indies are placed below England.

New Zealand are the only team yet to open their account in the new WTC cycle, while West Indies is the only side to have no points despite playing five Tests in the 2025-27 WTC cycle. Meanwhile, Australia continue to dominate the new cycle with no defeats so far. England are in deep trouble and need to win all four games to actually break into the top two.

Notably, Australia and England will lock horns for the 2nd Test at the Gabba in Brisbane on December 4.
