In a phenomenal achievement, Australian ace Travis Head completed 4000 runs in Test cricket. The swashbuckling cricketer attained the iconic feat in the ongoing Ashes Test between Australia and England at Perth Stadium.

Travis Head, the opener, shines for Australia

Australia had a pretty anti-climactic start to the Ashes 2025-26 with the bat, as their atrocious game-play led to their collapse in the first innings. However, the Australians' strategic move to promote Travis Head as an opener paid rich dividends for them, as Head led the charge with a trademark counter-attack.

The left-hander frustrated England with his scintillating stroke-play, wearing the visiting attack with precision. Head's first-ever outing as a Test opener on home soil also led him to a remarkable feat, as he entered the elite list of Australian batters with 4000 Test runs. Overall, he became the 29th Australian batter to bring up the milestone.

Travis Head fireworks keep England at bay in Perth Test

After being bowled out for 132 runs, Australia bundled England out for 164 in the second innings. That said, a target of 205 still could've been tricky for the hosts had England managed a couple of early breakthroughs. However, Travis Head's masterclass at the top order not only tore the English attack but also ensured a sensational start for the home side.

While Head continued his onslaught on the Englishmen, his opening partner, Jake Weatherald, took a bit of time before announcing his arrival with a couple of delightful strokes. The southpaw scored his first runs in the format and departed after contributing 23 runs to Australia's total.

As of writing, Australia were comfortably heading towards the target. Riding on Head's fiery knock, the hosts were 76 for one, with Head and Labuschagne batting on 50* and 0*, respectively.
