India’s domestic circuit is enjoying thrilling T20 action. The Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy is back with another thrilling season. In the 63rd match of the tournament, Mumbai locked horns with Kerala and the match turned out to be a nightmare for Shardul Thakur who created an unwanted record.
Fans had a great time enjoying the SMAT clash between Mumbai and Kerala. While batting in the first innings, the Mumbai bowlers struggled and made an unwanted record for the joint-worst bowling figure of the tournament.
Shardul’s Redundant Record
The Indian fans are enjoying the thrilling Syed Mushtaq Ali Trophy. Shreyas Iyer’s Mumbai is locking horns with Sanju Samson’s Kerala is locking horns on the big stage. After registering some early success, Mumbai struggled in the match. While bowling first, the Mumbai bowlers struggled to dominate the opponent.
While bowling, Shardul Thakur unlocked an unwanted record. Initially, he dismissed Sanju Samson for 4 runs. After that, he conceded too many runs and failed to secure any other wicket. At the end of the first innings, he registered a bowling figure of 1/69 in 4 overs.
With that performance, he registered the joint-worst bowling figure in the ongoing tournament. A few days back, Arunachal Pradesh bowler Ramesh Rahul registered a similar bowling figure. The record was previously held by Hyderabad bowler Pagadala Naidu. In 2010, he registered a bowling figure of 1/67 in 2010.
No Shardul Thakur in IPL 2025
In past few years, Shardul Thakur struggled with his form. In the 2024 IPL, he picked up only 5 wickets in just 9 matches while donning CSK’s jersey. While batting, he scored only 21 runs, inconsistency has become the biggest setback for him. Along with that, he also has some injury setbacks and missed some major domestic tournaments.
Before stepping into the IPL auction, Shardul was released by his franchise and appeared into the auction table with a base price of 2 crore. Unfortunately, no franchises bid for the Indian player and he remained unsold.
