Shardul Thakur has played for India across formats and has delivered many match-winning performances. His price in the 2024 season was 4 Crore while in the 2022 and 2023 seasons, Shardul bagged 10.75 Crore per season. However, in the 2024 mega auction, the all-rounder went unsold which was quite a shocking move from the franchises, given his stature and skills as a player.

He has not been in great form in recent times and was injured too. However, he still remains a quality cricketer and here are the three reasons why not buying Shardul Thakur is a big blunder from the franchises

All-Round Skills - Ability To Make Impact In Crunch Situations

Shardul Thakur is known as a 'man with a golden arm'. He has an amazing ability to dish out crucial breakthroughs in tough situations and has done that in IPL as well as at the international level. He has 94 wickets in 95 matches in IPL and has one fifty with the bat as well.

His best season was the 2021 one where he picked 21 wickets in 16 matches, and in a T20 game, his ability to contribute both as a bowler and as a batter, makes him a good option that franchises could have betted on. He can be used as a pinch-hitter as well, while with the ball, he can bowl both at the death and with the new ball and all of these makes him a good utility player.

Experience And Usefulness Of Indian International Star In IPL

Shardul Thakur made his IPL debut in 2015, and since then has played for various franchises. So, he knows how to go about his business and at the international level too, he has delivered for India in alien conditions under immense pressure.

So, having such an experienced cricketer in the ranks who still has some cricket left in him, makes sense. Also, in IPL, having a strong Indian core is essential to win trophies and if there is an option of someone like Shardul Thakur who has the experience as well as skills to deliver on the big stage, it seems like a big mistake to let him go unsold in the auction.

Available At 2 Crore

Shardul Thakur had a base price of 2 Crore in the auction, and as there was no one to bid for him, it was a great opportunity for one of the franchises to grab him at a low price. He may not be at his best, but he was still a decent buy at 2 Crore and the franchises could have used him according to the situation and composition of their squad.

Also, his experience could have helped other youngsters in the squad as well, and he himself could have got back to good form, so buying him at 2 Crore was surely a risk worth taking.
