Unmukt Chand for Knight Riders (Source:@LA_KnightRiders/X.com)
Unmukt Chand, the former Indian U19 captain, relocated to the USA a few years ago with the hope of reviving his career. However, things have not gone his way, and he has struggled for consistency, especially in the Major League Cricket.
Unmukt Chand Shines In Knight Riders' Loss Against San Francisco
Now, he is back for Los Angeles Knight Riders in the third edition and has finally delivered. He walked out to bat at number 3 in the run-chase of 220 against San Francisco Unicorns and started with a bang. He hit a flurry of boundaries early in his knock and scored 53 from just 32 balls. The right-handed batter hit 4 fours and as many sixes in his knock and kept Knight Riders going despite other batters struggling.
The hallmark of his knock was his strokeplay against short balls against quality international bowlers like Haris Rauf and Liam Plunkett. However, after the blistering fifty, Unmukt Chand was outfoxed by Haris Rauf in the 13th over and that triggered a collapse, leaving Knight Riders 32 short of their target.
Apart from Chand, the likes of Matthew Tromp and Narine also played decent knocks, but it was too little, too less in a massive run chase.
Unmukt Chand's Form A Positive Sign For Underachievers Knight Riders'
Unmukt Chand's form though is a good sign for them going forward in the season as his struggle in the past two seasons has reflected in the team's overall performance. This was just his third half-century of the Major League Cricket in the 11th match. In the previous season, Chand scored 158 runs in six matches while he had a forgettable maiden season with 68 runs in four games. As a result, Knight Riders have won just three matches in the MLC history.
Los Angeles Knight Riders will play next against Texas Super Kings on June 15 and it will be a day game. It would be a tough task for them, but with one of their senior batters scoring runs in the first match, they would be confident of a strong comeback.
