Jay Shah getting criticised [Source: @Ben_Wisden/x.com]
The International Cricket Council (ICC) Chairman, Jay Shah is not new to criticism, and despite doing wonders for Indian Cricket and the global game, the former BCCI Secretary receives a lot of flak online.
He was once again the subject of criticism on Saturday during South Africa's World Test Championship (WTC) title celebration. The Proteas team defeated the defending champions in the finale and were set to receive the WTC mace from Jay Shah.
Why was Jay Shah criticised online?
The entire team was standing at the podium, the ICC Chairman presented the WTC mace to captain Temba Bavuma and walked off the podium and at that particular moment, the photographer clicked photos of the team celebrating but Bavuma hid behind Jay Shah and it looked like the ICC head hogged all the limelight, seemingly eliminated Bavuma from the frame.
This didn't go well with the cricket fraternity as they lashed out at Jay Shah for hogging all the limelight when the Proteas team should have been the centre of attraction.
Jay Shah's congratulatory message to Temba Bavuma's South Africa
The ICC Chairman also posted a congratulatory post for the Proteas team for winning the World Test Championship. He took to his 'X' account and penned down a special message for the winning team.
“Congratulations to @ProteasMenCSA on winning the @ICC World Test Championship! And a performance for the ages from @aramco Player of the Match Aiden Markram. The @HomeOfCricket Lord’s was a fantastic venue, and the huge crowds every day once again showed the interest in Test cricket.”
With this victory, South Africa have won their second-ever ICC title. They won the ICC Knockout Cup in 1998 and after 27 years the team captured yet another ICC Championship. Bavuma became the second captain after Hansie Cronje to win an ICC title for the Proteas.
