In a significant development, India have dealt a massive blow as their star seamer Akash Deep has walked off the field after bowling his over. Notably, the incident occurred in the 32nd over, when the right-arm seamer was spotted leaving the ground alongside the physio. 

The details about the injury are not known but Akash Deep was seen holding his left hip in pain, indicating to be a issue related with his back. At the time of writing, the 28-year-old is still out of play and England have put 133/4 on the board after 35 overs as Jasprit Bumrah and Mohammed Siraj are bowling a spell.

Akash Deep Coming After Injury Layoff

It is concerning sign for India as Akash Deep has a history of back injury as he also missed a few IPL games earlier this year because of a back injury.  It is worth noting that Deep suffered from back issues and was sidelined from action for a couple of months since December 2024 since the Border-Gavaskar Trophy.

The right-arm seamer returned to action in April 2024 but looked out of touch. It was only till the Edgbaston Test that the 28-year-old looked in great shape and rhythm.

Deep Returns To Field In Latest Development

At the time of writing, Akash has returned to the field after receiving treatment in the dressing room. However, the 28-year-old has not bowled a single over since returning to the field and the captain Shubman Gill might have been advised by the dressing room to utilise Deep carefully. 

Nonetheless, Akash Deep's return is a positive sign for India and indication that the injury isn't serious as earlier assumed. Talking about the match, Deep has contributed heavily as he took the crucial wicket of Harry Brook and uprooted his timber.
