On Saturday, October 26, New Zealand scripted history as they became the first time in 12 years to win a Test series on Indian soil. The Kiwis registered a 113-run win over the hosts to clinch the three-match series 2-0 with a game left to play.

It was New Zealand's first Test series win over India in India and a proud moment for Tom Latham as he became the first New Zealand captain to win a Test series on Indian soil. It was the first time in 4331 days that India have lost a Test series at home.

It is a historic feat for Latham as it was his first assignment as a full-time Test skipper for New Zealand after Tim Southee stepped down from the role following embarrassment against Sri Lanka, where they suffered a 0-2 defeat before travelling to India.

Further, Latham is the fourth visiting captain to win a Test series in India since 2000. Only Hansie Cronje, Adam Gilchrist, and Alastair Cook have achieved this feat in the past.

New Zealand Register First Test Win In India After 36 Years

Talking about the ongoing series, New Zealand handed India an eight-wicket defeat in the first Test, where they bowled out India for their lowest total in Tests at home (46).

In the ongoing match, New Zealand, batting first, put 259 runs on the board. In reply, India failed with the bat again and tumbled for just 156 runs, giving a 103-run lead to the visitors.

In reply, New Zealand replicated their first innings performance and put 255 runs on the board, setting a target of 359 runs. The hosts started positively with the run chase, but Mitchell Santner's five-wicket haul restricted India to just 245, resulting in a 113-run defeat for Rohit Sharma's India.
