Lyca Kovai Kings: 179/7 in 20 overs [Sai Sudharsan- 86 (45), Mukilesh- 33 (32); Shankar- 3/26 (4), Sai Kishore- 2/24 (4)] beat IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans: 109/10 in 20 overs [Raheja- 33 (33), Vaidhya- 16 (17); Shahrukh- 3/20 (4), M Mohammed- 2/11 (2)] by 70 runs.

A blistering knock of 86 from Sai Sudharsan, followed by a dominating day with the ball helped Lyca Kovai Kings beat IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans in the first match of the seventh edition of the Tamil Nadu Premier League 2023 on Monday in Coimbatore. The defending co-champions started their campaign in style with a huge win of 70 runs.

Sai Sudharsan powers Kovai Kings to a formidable total

After being asked to bat first, Lyca Kovai Kings got off to a poor start, losing three of their top four batters very early in the powerplay. In-form Sai Sudharsan, alongside U Mukilesh started the rescue work and made sure their team did not lose any further wicket, ending the powerplay with 42 for 3.

Following the powerplay, Mukilesh played second fiddle to Sudharsan, who changed his gears quite brilliantly. The partnership got the Kings back in the game as Mukilesh departed after making a decent 33. Meanwhile, Sudharsan kept going from the other end and completed his half century off 30 balls.

Shahrukh Khan joined hands as well with a good cameo of a 15-ball 25 with Sudharsan finishing brilliantly at the end, extracting 24 off Periyaswamy in the last over. Vijay Shankar, who sparked an early collapse, taking two wickets in back to back deliveries finished with a figure of 3 for 26. Sai Kishore was brilliant as well with 2 for 24 in his 4.

Tamizhans goes down without a fight

Chasing 180, IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans got off to a decent start as they managed to score 45 in the first six overs, losing 2 wickets as well. Shahrukh Khan was very aggressive with his bowling changes as he wasted no time to bring M Siddharth and himself early into the attack.

After the powerplay, M Mohammed came to the attack and got the big wicket of in-form Vijay Shankar in the very first ball of his spell. Moreover, he went on to remove Sai Kishore as well in the very same over and the Tamizhans were limited to 4 down with only 47 on the board.

The collapse was on as the Kings were all over the Tamizhans, reducing them to 64 for 7 at the halfway mark. Tushar Raheja, who opened the innings, tried his best to hold one end but fell short of crease while trying to run two in the 13th over. The game was more than over by then and eventually Tamizhans got bowled out for 109, falling short by a huge 70 runs.
