'Getting Kohli was great...,' Scott Boland Talks About His Favourite Wicket In WTC Final

After battling out for more than four days Australia are the new World Test Champions after defeating Rohit Sharma-led India by 209 runs early on Day 5 of the WTC Final at the Oval.

Chasing 444, India ended Day 4 with 164 on the board and needing 280 runs to get with 7 wickets in hand on the last day of the final. Virat Kohli and Ajinkya Rahane had a huge task ahead of them in order to keep India alive in the chase.

India did manage to play out the first half an hour but soon Scott Boland got the breakthrough as Kohli nicked off the bowling off his bowling and Steven Smith took a blinder at slips to send back the biggest hope for India early on Day 5. Even though Kohli looked in great control late on Day 4, it was Boland back then as well who managed to create some discomfort to him.

He went on to remove Ravindra Jadeja in the same over and India found themselves under huge trouble being five down with only 179 runs on the board. Ajinkya Rahane was still there battling out but soon sent back by Mitchell Starc. Nathan wrapped up India’s tale and bowled them out for 234 to lift the second edition of the championship.

Years Of Hard work paid off for Boland

India were always chasing this game right from Day 1. Even if there was a glimmer of hope, Scott Boland destroyed it by getting the biggest fish in Kohli early in the summit day.

"Yes, it was good fun. Nice to come out here for our bowling group and take 20 wickets. There was some bounce outside the off stump, and I tried to exploit that. Getting Kohli was great and that two wickets in an over changed it for us."

The Victoria-born had been a constant performer with the red ball in the Australian domestic and now doing it for Australia at the biggest stage has been a dream come true for him. The 34-year-old expressed his feeling after playing a huge role in wrapping up the Indian innings on the final day.

"Been playing state cricket for Victoria for 12 years. Have done some hard work. Nice to play international cricket and get the rewards. Now looking forward to the Ashes."

Australia became the first team to win every ICC trophy at least once. The World Test Championship was the only missing silverware which they have now won in the very second edition. Pat Cummins and co will be next in action in the Ashes with the First Test commencing from June 16 at the Edgbaston in Birmingham.
