The fifth match of The Hundred 2023 will witness a highly-anticipated encounter between Southern Brave and Welsh Fire. The tournament, scheduled at the iconic Rose Bowl in Southampton, holds significant importance for the Brave, as they will be keen to get off the mark in the tournament.

SOB vs WEF: Team Previews

Southern Brave

Southern Brave, who had an abysmal campaign in The Hundred last year, suffered a gut-wrenching six-run defeat against the defending champions Trent Rockets in this season's opening fixture.

The Brave's bowling department performed exceptionally, as they restricted the Rockets' formidable batting unit to a modest 133. However, their batting unit crumbled during the chase, with the likes of James Vince, Devon Conway and Tim David letting them down big time. Finn Allen looked rusty and took 27 balls for his 28, while Leus du Plooy and Chris Jordan were the only two batters to have a satisfactory outing.

So, moving on to this game, the Brave would like better returns from their core players, particularly batters.

Welsh Fire

On the contrary, Welsh Fire are high on confidence, as they defeated the previous season's runners-up Manchester Originals in their opening game. Although it was a rain-curtailed affair, Luke Wells' fiery fifty, Shaheen Afridi's new ball spell and David Willey's death bowling turned out to be the biggest positives for the Tom Abell-led side.

So, given their recent form, Welsh Fire could emerge as a significant threat to the Brave in this match.

SOB vs WEF: Pitch Report

The surface at the Rose Bowl in Southampton has traditionally been a batters' paradise, with the average scoring rate reading 8.21 in 11 T20Is conducted here. The surface will likely be on the drier side, assisting the spinners and bowlers with variations, especially in the latter half. So, considering the track record, the toss-winner will likely bat first.
