Dynamic Australian keeper-batter Matthew Wade had an outstanding start to The Hundred 2023, amassing a glorious 27-ball 37 and helping London Spirit post a respectable total in their opening fixture against Oval Invincibles. However, besides his knock, Wade's magnificent fielding effort to save a certain six grabbed a million eyeballs, as it involved commendable dedication and athleticism.

The incident took place in the penultimate set during Oval's innings when the game hung in balance, with the visitors needing 19 runs with four wickets in hand. Jordan Thompson provided the Spirit with an incredible start to the over, dismissing Sam Billings on the very first delivery. After bowling two more dot balls, Thompson delivered a full toss, which was whipped with brute force by Gus Atkinson.

While it felt like the ball would sail over the square leg fence, Wade covered a considerable distance and jumped at the perfect time to save four precious runs for his side. Had he got hold of it, it would've been one of the finest-ever grabs in modern-day cricket.

However, London Spirit had an undesirable finish, losing the game by three wickets, courtesy of Sunil Narine's heroics in the final set. Up next, they will take on Manchester Originals in their second group-stage fixture on August 5.
