With India continuing their dominance on the West Indies by winning the series 2-1 at the Carribean giants turf, the men in blue will also be happy with some young performers in the series as well. One of the big performers in the series was the flamboyant Ishan Kishan. The destructive southpaw was the most consistent batsman in the series with half centuries in all 3 matches he finished as the leading run scorer in this series with 184 runs from 3 games and a brilliant average of 61.33 in the series.
With these amazing performances Kishan was also named the man of the series and making him a possible choice for the upcoming ODI World Cup as well. The 25 yr old keeper batsman has had a promising ODI career so far with 694 runs from 17 matches with a solid average of 46.27 to go with his great strike rate of 107.43 which indicates his ability to score runs quickly which can be vital in modern day cricket.

Ishan Kishan has been an attacking player throughout his career, so it should come to no surprise that he would not think twice before going after the bowling from ball one. So far he has scored 80 runs in the powerplay this series and hasn’t been dismissed even once. Along with that he has also scored the most boundaries out of all the batsmen in this series with 12 fours to his name and has a strike rate of 91.95 which is good in ODI standards.
Under him is his opening partner Shubman Gill who has put on two 100+ opening stands in this series and has done well in this series as well. This powerplay made a huge impact on the Indian performance in this series as Kishan along with Gill was giving them brilliant starts where the West Indian openers Kyle Mayers and Brandon King failed as they both averaged 10.67 and 14.00 in the powerplay and were also dismissed 3 times each.
It is also important to bring up that due to this aggressive approach by Kishan he not only scored quick runs but also reduced the pressure on the rest of the batsmen even on a tough batting wicket in Barbados at the Kensington Oval where all the batsmen were struggling to get going.
Conclusion
Overall this has been a great series for Kishan with the World Cup around the corner where he could be the potential wicket keeper batsman for India due to the absence of Kl Rahul and Rishab Pant. Even after this series there is still some room for improvement for him as we did see a lot of potential, but with ODI being a longer format the need for converting good knocks to big knocks is very important.
For the ODI format Kishan has to convert those 50’s and 60’s to 100’s not only to secure a spot in the World Cup but also to play international cricket consistently. With his gifted talent and fearless approach with the slight improvement of converting his scores he can be an amazing match winner for India in the future. Along with his amazing batting him being a keeper as well can make him a huge asset for the men in blue to look at in the future.
