Temba Bavuma turned on the style at Newlands and smashed a brilliant century on Day 1 of the second Test against Pakistan. The South African skipper walked in when the team was wobbling, and led from the front.

Temba Bavuma Leads from the Front with a Sensational Ton

With his fourth Test ton, Temba Bavuma reminded everyone why he’s the captain, silencing critics and lifting his side in the process. It all happened in the 74th over. Aamer Jamal bowled a back-of-a-length delivery, and Bavuma played it softly to square leg to take the milestone run.

The celebration was something else: helmet off, fists pumping, and a roar of relief and triumph. The crowd at Newlands rose to its feet, showering him with applause. It was a captain’s knock through and through.

Bavuma came in at a tricky time. South Africa had gone from 61/0 to 72/3 in no time, and Pakistan’s bowlers were sniffing blood. But Bavuma had other plans. He dug in, played every ball on its merit, and slowly turned the tide. The Proteas skipper didn’t just hold the fort, he counterattacked when needed and showed determination and class in equal measure.

Bavuma-Rickelton Make Pakistan Bowlers Toil Hard

If Bavuma was the anchor, Ryan Rickelton was the accelerator. Together, they formed a sensational 235*run partnership that completely flipped the script. Rickelton, who’s also notched a ton, was at his free-flowing best, while Bavuma played the perfect foil. This stand has not just rebuilt South Africa’s innings, it’s put them in a commanding position.

At the time of writing, South Africa are cruising at 307/3 with Bavuma on 106 and Rickelton on 172. The pair looks unstoppable, and Pakistan’s bowlers are running out of ideas. With 14 overs still to go on Day 1, the Proteas are in the driver’s seat, looking to pile on the runs and bat Pakistan out of the game.
