The Bangladesh Premier League 2024-25 witnessed a heart-stopping moment during Match 7 between the Chittagong Kings and Durbar Rajshahi. A collision on the field left fans and players alike holding their breath.
Sabbir Hossain Left Motionless After Bone-Chilling Collision in BPL
It all unfolded during the 14th over of Chittagong Kings’ innings. Sohag Gazi delivered a length ball on leg stump, and Usman Khan tried a sweep shot. The ball took a leading edge and soared into the sky towards the square leg region.
As fate would have it, both the short fine leg fielder, Shafiul Islam, and the deep backward square leg fielder, Sabbir Hossain, sprinted in for the catch. What happened next was absolute chaos, a collision as ugly as a missed sitter in a tight chase.
The two players clashed mid-air with Sabbir taking a deadly blow to the head from Shafiul’s elbow. The ball spilled out, leaving the catch unclaimed, and to make matters worse, Sabbir crumpled to the ground. Skipper Anamul Haque was fuming, visibly animated as the chance slipped away, but all attention quickly turned to Sabbir, who lay motionless.
The stadium fell silent as the physios rushed in. Replay footage confirmed the worst—Sabbir had been hit hard on the side of his head. Medical staff quickly rushed in and a stretcher followed soon after. With neck braces firmly in place, Sabbir was carried off the field which left fans biting their nails in worry.
Sabbir Walks Out To Bat
Meanwhile, against all odds, Sabbir walked out to bat during Durbar Rajshahi’s chase, much to everyone’s relief. However, he managed just 8 runs off 5 balls.
Chasing a mammoth 220, Durbar Rajshahi is in hot water at the time of writing this article, sitting at 95/5 after 10.4 overs. They needed a miracle to pull this one off with all the top order-batters back in the hut.
